Description

The Miller Hull Partnership, Founded in 1977, is a West Coast-based architecture and planning firm with offices in Seattle and San Diego. Emphasizing performance-based design, capabilities include full-service architectural, interior design, as well as master and space planning for both public and private buildings. The firm's design work spans a wide range of project types such as K-12 schools/higher education, community and interpretive centers, museums, public buildings, libraries, mixed-use buildings, laboratories, corporate offices, in-fill condominiums and small residences as well as international border crossings and embassies.

The Miller Hull Partnership is the recipient of the National Firm Award from the American Institute of Architects as well as over 340 design awards and is published in numerous national and international design journals.

The Miller Hull Partnership is seeking highly self-motivated applicants for immediate placement in our Seattle or San Diego Studio as a full-time Sustainability Services Lead to assist with multiple projects and participate on multiple project teams for both Studios, in both office locations.

The role requires the successful stewardship and application of green building rating systems on the firm's projects, specifically LEED, but also synergistic systems like Fitwel, WELL, Envision, ESDS, SEED, BuiltGreen and RELi. The role also demands understanding the opportunities and limitations of these various rating systems to guide reasonable performance targets and documentation standards, while still achieving certification. The role requires active engagement with project teams on sustainable design approaches beyond mere certification.

In addition to specific project tasks, as part of our sustainability team, you will be working on larger firm sustainability initiatives. This role focuses on supporting and catalyzing sustainability achievement for Miller Hull projects, operations, and culture, focused on accelerating the deployment of sustainability, resilience and regenerative principles broadly into our design work and office operations.

Your primary role will be to:

  • Actively collaborate as part of the project design team on multiple projects, in both Studios, office-wide
  • Support project teams with their progress against the Miller Hull Sustainability Action Plan, other Miller Hull commitments, and project-specific goals
  • Work with diverse stakeholders to conceptualize, coordinate, and implement strategies to reduce, monitor, and optimize project sustainability performance
  • Prepare written analyses of findings and recommendations for various building-related sustainability solutions, and manage key external relationships and partnerships
  • Assist in the development of tools to surface, analyze and report out building data necessary for decision-making and reporting
  • Analyze and communicate the financial impact of projects and initiatives
  • Communicate and present to key leaders
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Management and support of sustainable rating systems on a variety of projects and project types; including the following tasks:
  • Project, task, schedule and budget management
  • Maintaining positive client and partner relationships
  • Managing the certification process and guiding clients and project teams to plan for, implement, and prepare documentation for a selected rating system
  • Facilitating workshops, meetings, and calls
  • Providing technical assistance on all sustainable building topics related to certification and certification processes
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications, and documentation, and then facilitating changes and updates in response to certification review comments
  • Facilitating final rating system applications and providing post-certification support

Actively collaborate as part of the firm's sustainability team in creating and delivering on firm-wide initiatives:

  • Help Update and support the execution of Miller Hull's Sustainability Action & Implementation Plans
  • Contribute thought leadership through blog posts, lunch-and-learns, conference speaking, and teaching opportunities
  • Evaluate new technology and industry barriers to decarbonize the built environment
  • Continue to deepen expertise to advance the firm's sustainability initiatives in key areas (see listing under "Demonstrated Experience" in job requirement section).
